Picture this: you’re going through the TSA security line and instead of having to scramble to get your shoes back on, all you have to do is slip your foot right in and head to your gate stress-free. For a pair of convenient, comfortable, and stylish shoes, slip-on sneakers will be your travel footwear go-to.

But we won’t just talk the talk, we (literally) walked the walk and tried 30 pairs of slip-on shoes for men. From cozy clogs to sporty sneakers, we tested slip-ons from trusted footwear brands like OluKai, Vans, and Birkenstock to judge the fit, comfort, and durability of each pair. After our initial testing period, we will continue to wear the sneakers over the course of six months. Whether you’re traversing an airport or commuting to the office, we put together a comprehensive list of various pairs of slip-ons that received high praise during testing and added tips and tricks for finding comfy footwear for your next trip.

These shoes offer superior comfort that lasts all day.

Because they're so breathable, they won't keep your feet warm in cold weather.

An everyday shoe should be comfortable, lightweight, and supportive in various situations, and we found the On Cloud 5 Sneakers to fit that criteria. They required no break-in period during testing and remained comfortable at all times while wearing them every day for two weeks. Because they're slip-ons, these shoes are easy to get on but are secure enough on the feet that they don't feel like they're about to come off. They're also so lightweight and breathable that we barely noticed them while walking around. True to the name, we felt like we were walking on clouds. We were also impressed with the durability of these sneakers — even after two weeks of regular use, the soles still looked brand new. The materials feel high-quality, and we're confident these will last for a long time.

The Details: Sizes 7-14 | 8 ounces per shoe | Recycled polyester, polyurethane | Half sizes | Two laces options

The canvas upper feels high quality and protective, and there are over 40 patterns and colors to choose from.

The shoes aren’t the most breathable and have a slight break-in period.

No matter what your personal style is, these iconic Vans slip-ons have a color and pattern for every traveler’s wardrobe. Out of the box, the shoes felt sturdy and slightly on the heavier side because of the thick rubber soles and canvas upper material, but durability-wise, we don’t expect the gum rubber outsole to wear down easily. The canvas upper comes in more than 30 different colors including checkered and solid-color prints, so you can choose the style that suits you best. There was a minor break-in period where the upper material loosened up a bit, but it didn’t cause much discomfort or any blistering, so we feel the customized and comfortable end result is worth it. Unfortunately, the materials aren’t very breathable, so they may be better suited for cooler seasons.

The traction is great, and you can throw these stylish shoes in the washing machine for easy cleaning without damaging them.

We wish there was more cushioning and arch support for when you want to walk long distances.

Shoes can be tricky to keep clean but not the Rothy’s The Ravello Slip On Sneaker — you can toss these in the washing machine when they get dirty so it's easy to keep them looking fresh. This is a huge perk because these shoes are all about style. We brought these on a cruise to the Bahamas, and after wearing them over a dozen times in various situations, we were consistently impressed with how good they made our feet look in both casual and dressier attire. But these slip-ons aren't all about looks: they're easy to put on without hands and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. We did notice that the lack of arch support made our feet a little sore if we tried to wear them all day, but shorter and midrange walks were fine. The traction was top notch when we wore them line dancing and salsa dancing on a boat. We also found that they were slightly larger than our true size, so we recommend going down a half size for the best fit. Aside from those minor issues, we think these are comfortable, stylish shoes that are easy to clean as a bonus.

The Details: Sizes 7-16 | Recycled knit, EVA, rubber | Half sizes | Removable insoles | Machine washable

They're breathable and made of high-quality materials that are sure to last.

The looser heel takes some getting used to.

Those who want the convenience of a slip-on shoe but the adjustability of a lace-up will love the Kizik Limas. They feel spacious and provide plenty of cushion for staying on your feet. The heel is wide enough that you can slip these on and off without morphing the structure, but they aren't so loose that it causes heel chafing. Plus, the adjustable laces allow you to tighten these slip-ons as much as you need to feel secure. We found the Limas are so breathable you can even wear them without socks while staying comfortable and sweat-free. The shoes are made of high-quality Rabbit foam outsoles for added cushion and traction as well as a durable knit upper that won't rip as you pop into these shoes and rush out the door. Another bonus: the removable insole is washable.

The Details: Sizes 4.5-15 | 14.9 ounces per shoe | Recycled textile, textile, rubber, Rabbit foam outsole | Standard, wide, and extra-wide options | Removable insoles | Adjustable laces

The leather shoes combine the functionality of slip-ons with the nicer look of Chelsea-style boots.

There is a break-in period that may last a few weeks.

These Naot leather shoes are an investment-worthy pair of slip-ons that boast style and comfort. The rugged leather upper and thick rubber sole feel durable enough to withstand the test of time, and the midsole arch support and cushioning offer exceptional comfort. Plus, they feature a unique design: they’re easy to slip on and off hands-free but look like a pair of Chelsea boots without the shaft going up the ankles. The padded heel cup and bumper add extra comfort, and the arch support provides enough structure and cushioning for all-day wear at the office or out to dinner. After we tested the shoes for several weeks, the leather upper material still felt a little tight but began to loosen up the more we wore them. That said, the shoes do run true to size even with the longer break-in period.

The Details: Sizes 7-14/40-47 | 1.13 pounds per shoe | Leather, rubber | Removable insoles

The cork footbed offers impressive arch support that continues to get more comfortable over time.

The leather upper isn’t very breathable.

When it comes to quickly slipping on a pair of shoes, it doesn’t get much easier than a set of clogs from Birkenstock. The leather upper gives the clogs a more rugged and outdoorsy look, while the suede-lined cork footbed adds an abundance of comfort thanks to the arch support and contoured heel. With zero break-in period required, these Birkenstocks are comfortable right away and are designed to continue molding to the shape of the foot for a custom fit over time — something we already noticed after just a few weeks of wearing them. Although there isn’t a true heel like with other slip-on sneakers we tried, the cupped heel of the clogs helps with stability, and there is a strap that rests on the top of the foot so you can adjust the tightness as needed.

The Details: Sizes 6-17.5 | 9 ounces per shoe | Leather, cork | Standard/wide and medium/narrow options | Adjustable straps

The removable insoles are cushioned and supportive, making these shoes comfortable for all-day wear.

You may need to use your hands to get your foot into the shoe.

The breathable upper material, comfortable midsoles, and overall laid-back style of these Olukai slip-on sneakers make them an excellent choice for beach-goers or tropical vacationers. With a mesh upper and midsoles designed to feel like bare feet walking on sand, the compressive top material and cushioned footbed contour to the shape of the foot to fit a variety of arches and foot shapes. Best of all, you can remove the insoles and wash them to boost the lifespan of the shoes. For extra versatility, the heel of the shoe is designed to drop down and lay flat to turn the sneaker into a mule style if you don’t need the extra support of the heel. If you don’t wear socks with these slip-ons, you may want to consider ordering a half size down, as we found that the heel may slip up a bit with a looser fit.

They have excellent support and traction that makes them ideal for active days.

The fit runs a little wide, which might be a problem if you prefer narrow shoes.

If you spend a lot of time at the gym, you'll appreciate the ease of use and comfort of Nike's latest Metcon shoe. This specific Metcon model is made with a flexible heel that bends while you slip the shoes on hands-free before snapping back into place. Although the shoes slip on, they still tie like standard sneakers for a snug fit, which is essential when using them during athletic activities. These shoes have strong arch and heel support, which made them feel comfortable and supportive all day, whether we wore them at the gym or during long outdoor walks. The materials feel durable, and we didn't notice any signs of abnormal wear and tear after using them in various indoor and outdoor environments.

The Details: Sizes 3.5-15 | Mesh, foam, rubber | Half sizes

Made with high-quality leather or suede, these are great-looking shoes.

They aren't very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

For those who prefer to wear sneakers but want a dressier look, these slip-ons from Allen Edmonds are a great option. They are quite a bit pricier than other options on this list, but they look the part. You can choose from a leather or suede upper, both of which give a refined and classy vibe to the rest of your attire. They look like a hybrid between a sneaker and a dress shoe and are made with materials that look and feel high-quality. We tested a leather pair and found them easy to get on without using our hands, although we did have to wiggle our feet a bit to get them in. After wearing these several times, we found that they aren't the most comfortable sneakers we've tried. They feel a little stiff and similar to a dress shoe without much padding on the inside. While we didn't experience any blisters or significant pain, we wouldn't recommend wearing these for long walks or active days. That being said, we still think they're worth the splurge if you want an attractive shoe that isn't a traditional loafer or Oxford.

The Details: Sizes 7-14 | Leather or suede, rubber | Half sizes | Standard and triple-wide options

These shoes are affordable and provide great comfort and support.

The style is sporty-casual, so these won't go with dressier attire.

Shoes don't have to skimp on quality to be affordable, like these Skechers Summits High Range sneakers. They're remarkably easy to slip on hands-free and still feel secure on our feet, even though they use elastic laces that can't be tightened. The soles are thick and squishy, and the mesh upper is breathable, making these comfortable to wear all day. These are on the casual side, so we wouldn't try to dress them up, but we found them to be perfect for everyday tasks like walking the dog and running errands. The shoes offer plenty of support and have good traction on dry ground. We saw no signs of wear after using them almost every day for a couple of weeks.

The Details: Sizes 6.5-16 | Mesh, foam | Half sizes | Standard and wide options

These will keep you light on your feet, and they're breathable without skimping on support.

The top of the mesh fabric bunched a little after a few wears, which didn't look great.

Keep things light with these slip-on sneakers from Kuru. Weighing just 11 ounces per shoe, you'll barely notice them on your feet. These are easy to slip on but do require some help from the hands, although they feel plenty snug without being tight once they're on. We wore these numerous times in many settings, including hiking, walking, and trips to the office. Considering how lightweight they are, they offer great arch support and traction. They're comfortable to wear all day and caused us no blisters, redness, or other foot pain. The mesh upper also makes them very breathable, which adds to their comfort level. We did find them to be a smidge on the large side, so we would recommend going down a half size if you're between sizes; otherwise, stick to your normal size.

We tried a number of super comfortable slip-on shoes and while we still recommend the shoes highlighted below, they fell short during testing due to minor issues with comfort and fit.

SeaVees Hawthorne Slip On: We appreciated the lightweight design of these shoes and were impressed that we felt no rubbing or chafing after long periods of wear. However, the lack of arch support makes these not a great fit for everyone, and we found an even lighter pair during another round of testing.

Kizik Men’s Athens: We love that these sneakers require no break-in period to feel comfortable while walking, but we wish the soles were a little thicker for added support. These are great shoes overall, we just feel like there are better options available at a similar price point, and we prefer the Kizik option in our main list.

After wearing 30 sets of slip-on shoes for at least two weeks, we evaluated each pair based on comfort, support, durability, and fit. We tried a variety of styles including men's loafers, sneakers, clogs, and boat shoes to find a pick for every traveler. We took thorough notes and paid close attention to the break-in period (if there was one), the amount of arch support provided, and the durability of the shoes after wearing them while walking around the city, commuting to work, traveling through an airport, and running errands. To get a feel for the arch support, we wore the shoes for multiple hours at a time and tried to bend them in half to see how sturdy they were. In the end, our favorite pairs of slip-on shoes are easy to get on and off hands-free, feel sturdy enough to stand the test of time, and provide all-day comfort whether we’re sprinting through an airport or sightseeing in a new city. We will continue to test each pair for six months after the initial testing period to make sure they remain comfortable and durable.

Arch support, cushioning, and soft materials all play a factor in wearing a comfortable shoe, especially for long periods of time. Upper and lining materials like knit, leather, and suede will be softer on the top of the foot and help prevent chafing, and a heel bumper will keep the back of the foot in place and stop it from potentially blistering. Midsoles should have arch support and cushioning built in, but if you prefer to use custom insoles, make sure the included insoles are removable.

You should be able to slide your foot into a slip-on shoe without using your hands, but you’ll still want the fit to be on the more snug side. If the fit is loose, your heel will lift up which could cause blisters and make it feel less secure while walking or running. Depending on whether or not you wear socks with the shoes can also play a role with the fit, so consider sizing down if you don’t like to wear socks or sizing up if you tend to wear thicker socks.

If you’re planning on wearing slip-ons in the warm-weather destinations, be sure to look for breathable upper materials like mesh or cotton to help combat sweaty feet in the hotter months. For colder weather, opt for wool or synthetic materials that may be waterproof or thicker for warmth and protection against the elements. If you plan on walking long distances or working out in them, look for something supportive or athletic, or opt for a dressier pair if you need them to be more versatile for dinners out or business travel.

Wearing a pair of socks or no-show socks can be beneficial, especially if you’re breaking in your pair of slip-on shoes or if the fit of the shoe is a bit loose. Wearing socks can also help absorb moisture from the feet and prevent chafing on the sides or heels of your feet, so wearing them has benefits.

Slip-on shoes with the right comfort and support features can definitely be good for walking. You’ll want to look for arch support, cushioning, and soft materials to factor in comfort, and consider breaking in the shoes before traveling with them to prevent possible blisters or pain from disrupting your trip.

We recommend you defer to the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning a pair of shoes to ensure the longevity of the materials. Some slip-ons, like the Rothy's pair above, are fully machine washable, while others have removable insoles that you can wash. Some will require delicate spot cleaning, so you’ll want to double check beforehand.
